Welcome to Petra Yoga newsletter!
With the summer holidays over for this year, I feel re-energised and ready for new challenges. This month, I will be attending a 10-day therapeutic teacher training with the 'teacher of the teachers', Aadil Palkhivala in Seattle, which is my yoga highlight of this year. As always, my studio classes will be covered by a group of carefully selected teachers, so please keep on practising!
Best wishes,
Petra

Pregnancy Yoga
Pregnancy is an extraordinary time in a woman's life. It is divided into three trimesters, each of which has particular needs. In the first trimester it is all about self-nurture; second trimester should strengthen, while third trimester should be used to center and transform the fear into release. Yoga practice can guide the woman on this exceptional journey so that she can be prepared and empowered for labour and motherhood Read More »

Best Yoga Books
Choosing a good yoga book can inspire your practice, take it to a higher level, or simply clarify some postures. However, these days there are so many yoga books on the market, making that choice very hard. That is why we have a selection of books for various yoga styles available at our Petra Yoga Shop. For a wider selection, and other yoga products, please visit yogamatters.com. This month's favourites are:
Yoga - The Iyengar Way
Learn proper alignment of the postures with this new classic handbook, providing excellent guidance for students of all levels. Features over 100 postures with clear step-by-step colour photographs, graded according to ability. *Out of print in Europe; we have imported these copies from North America. Price: £21.99
Ashtanga Yoga - The Practice Manual
This ring-bound manual became an Ashtanga yoga essential as soon as it was published. Clear, photographs and concise explanations of asanas, drishti points and ujjayi; with inspirational quotes and background information about yoga. Price: £21.95
The Female Pelvis
A must-have book for all pregnant women, it is a most useful combination of functional anatomy and self-care guidance. It begins with functional pelvic anatomy emphasizing the pelvic floor and other muscles and ligaments, organs and their supportive structures, and finally the muscles bordering the perineum. Over 250 illustrations convey functional relationships and the impact of birthing on all pelvic structures. The body awareness exercises of the final chapters are designed to bring sensitivity to individual pelvic structures. These are followed by a series of exercises for increasing flexibility and strength.Price: £22.99

Class covers for the period from the 3rd-13th August
Whilst Petra is away on her therapeutic teacher training, most of her classes will be covered by Maja. Alexandra, Jessica and Rita will cover a few each. Each of these teachers has a particular style of teaching which can bring a 'breath of fresh air' to your practice.

Maja
Maja's area of expertise is Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. As well as teaching numerous classes, she has been assisting one of the most senior Ashtanga teachers in London, Hamish Hendry. Make sure you don't miss out!
Jessica
Jessica’s classes combine dynamic movement alongside Iyengar inspired alignment. Her teaching style is compassionate and she believes yoga should be fun and make anyone who practises feel good about themselves. Jessica is also in the final stages of a PhD in Anthropology at University College London.
